Press Statements & Prisoner Cases

Dui Hua issues statements to the press on the foundation’s role in Chinese prisoner cases, especially its work to secure sentence reductions and early releases. The foundation cites the relevant Chinese laws and regulations when releases are granted, thereby publicizing provisions that might be used in other cases. In addition, Dui Hua issues statements with information about other prisoner cases, China's criminal justice system, and additional topics tied to its mission.

Dui Hua's statements in August 2007 about the cases of Shi Tao and Wang Xiaoning renewed media and public interest in their cases. Other statements on Dui Hua's direct advocacy for prisoners, as with the early releases of Rebiya Kadeer, Wang Youcai, and Phuntsog Nyidron, have led to extensive coverage of the foundation's work.

Following the release of statements, Dui Hua's work has been covered by the Associated Press, Reuters, and Agence France-Presse news agencies, and in articles in publications such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, The Asian Wall Street Journal, USA Today, The San Francisco Chronicle, Time, and Newsweek.
