Special Programs
Dui Hua established the Special Program/Development Fund (SPDF) in 2005 to support activities that explore new directions for human rights exchange and organizational development. Contributions to the SPDF provide funding for both short-term projects like hosting visitors from abroad and also long-term development goals, including setting up foundation offices outside of the United States.
The SPDF has allowed Dui Hua to further cooperation between the foundation and human rights officials by hosting exchange and outreach programs in the Bay Area. With support from the SPDF, Dui Hua hosted Alan Leong, Legislative Councilor of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, for a September 2007 visit during which he made talks on democratization in Hong Kong. In March 2007, the foundation hosted Prof. Dan Wei (PDF) of the Institute for Procuratorial Theory under China’s Supreme People’s Procuratorate, and in May 2006, Dui Hua sponsored a visit by Prof. Li Shi’an (PDF) of Renmin University and the Chinese Association for Human Rights Studies.
As a long-term strategic project, the SPDF funded the opening of the foundation's office in Hong Kong in the fall of 2007 to complement and expand on the advocacy, research, and development work done from its office in San Francisco.
In 2006, the SPDF supported a summer internship for a recent university graduate. During that time, the intern learned about human rights work in a non-profit environment and contributed to projects to help further Dui Hua’s mission. |
